Upper American Rivers / Hwy 50 Corridor

As far as the Upper American River System goes there are miles upon miles of river that hold some of the greatest fishing in the Nor Cal Area. From the areas around the Rubicon and Hell Hole that can only be accessed with a 4x4, to the easy accessable rivers like the South Fork American near Kyburz. Anyway you look at it, the Upper Stretches of the American River System has something foreveryone. Whether dry fly fishing the South fork or Silver fork American or nymphing the deep 10-15ft pools on the Middle Fork and North Fork American, the American river system has it all. The best time to fish the upper stretches of the American river system is from midsummer to early winter, the key is getting up there just after the snow run off. These upper stretches can hold some very large fish that are always eager to take drys and nymphs, and streamers too. Depending on the stretches you fish, you can expect hooking into Rainbows, Browns or Brookies, but there are some areas that you can hook into all three.
